If you are a fan of onion recipes, then you must try out Amish Onion Patties. Very similar to a blooming onion but easier to make, delicious as an appetizer or a topping on a burger!

❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

Well one of the main reasons is we love onions and this dish is a total winner! We love to add onions to just about any dish we can and this recipe speaks for itself. If you love sweet onions this is a dish you must make. The hardest part is cutting up the onions! It’s really simple ingredients but the dish is loaded in flavor.

🍴KEY INGREDIENTS

  • Sweet Onions (we use Vidalia)
  • Garlic Powder
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Butter
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Parsley Flakes

You can swap out any cheese you like, that is what is wonderful about this dish. Use the cheese you love and make it different each time! Super versatile.

🍽️HOW TO MAKE

This dish is super easy; the hardest part is cutting up the onions and manually grating the cheese if you don’t buy it pre-shredded. We like to grate our own cheese.

Step 1
Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with cooking spray.  Peel and thinly slice onions into dish. Sprinkle on garlic powder, salt, black pepper and Italian seasoning.  Add thinly sliced butter pieces over onions.

Step 2
Sprinkle on Parmesan and cheddar cheese. Add parsley flakes.  Bake in preheated 325 degree oven, uncovered for 40 minutes.  Can turn on broiler for a couple minutes if you want it brown on top.

⭐TIP

These onions would be delicious on the top of a burger or hot dog. Great to serve at a summer BBQ as a topping. Also a wonderful side dish for any holiday gathering, like Thanksgiving.

  • 3 large sweet onions peeled and thinly sliced (regular or sweet Vidalia onions)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 4 tablespoons butter thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes

This recipe is so versatile in that you can add more onions to the dish depending on how many people you are serving. You can also make this using 3 different cheeses and add an Italian blend of cheese to the recipe.
